A hot knife is used to melt and cut synthetic sewing materials, webbing, paracord or ropes using an attached cutting tip. It usually consists of two parts: the hand-held device, which contains the power supply, and the cutting tip, which is heated by the power supply in the hand-held device. A hot knife is only suitable for materials with a low melting point, such as polyamide, polyester, polypropylene or polyurethane. With most hot cutters, the cutting tip can also be removed and replaced with a different type of cutting tip depending on requirements.
