  • Definition of CURV®

    Manufacturing
CURV® is a thermoplastic composite material made of polypropylene introduced by Propex in 2007. The starting material is polypropylene granulate, which is thermally molded into thin sheets. Once cooled, these sheets are cut into strips 1 cm wide, which are then stretched to 10-15 times their original length in the next process. The result is extremely thin strips that are under high mechanical pre-tension. These thin, stretched strips resemble a yarn, which is then woven into a stable polypropylene fabric. The fabric is then thermally compressed and pressed into lightweight and extremely stable sheets. This makes CURV® a flexible and stable material with high energy absorption, high impact resistance and high impact strength. CURV® performs particularly well at extremely low temperatures with very good stability and thanks to its rebound force, the material always returns to its original shape. The composite structure of the fibers also prevents white breakage (mechanical impairment). Furthermore, CURV® is chemically inert and impermeable.

    Areas of application
-CURV® is used in various areas, both civil and military:
    -Luggage manufacturing (Samsonite)
    -Rucksacks (reinforcement)
-Automotive industry (interior and underbody paneling)
